This position is responsible for providing strategic direction on global payroll for LyondellBasell’s 14,000+ employees across 58 sites and 18 countries.  The ideal candidate is a visionary thinker who can create and deliver innovative solutions that solve various business issues locally and globally.   This position will foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining exceptional business relationships across group boundaries. They will work collaborate closely with other Corporate teams including HR, Legal, Tax, Benefits, Compensation, IT solution delivery team, and Finance. This role leads a global payroll delivery team by developing a department-wide culture of continuous process improvement. The position serves as the global payroll process expert who drives process standardization, automation, and improvement in the controls for payroll globally and ensures process efficiency and effectiveness. This position will support an environment in which customer needs and requirements are anticipated and their expectations are exceeded.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop strategy and provide tactical direction to the Payroll teams across global regions.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, earnings and deductions, including the management of garnishments
  • Drive process consistency across all Regions and coordinate regional efforts towards global process standardization
  • Own oversight of department in compliance with all corporate policies and procedures
  • Drive controls and operational excellence including, but not limited to, SOX oversight and Controls & Compliance programs
  • Ensure process design supports fiscal and regulatory compliance
  • Lead the payroll accounting effort and oversee quarter and year-end tax filing and payroll reconciliation activities
  • Define and maintain documented policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with U.S. and global regulatory requirements and internal controls
  • Monitor and evaluate future legislation and determine impacts to policies and processes
  • Establish partnerships with third party vendors to ensure effective service delivery

 

  • Maintain communications with internal and external parties, including city/state/federal agencies, banks and third parties
  • Coach, mentor and provide leadership development to team members in order to achieve operational excellence
  • Oversee the interviewing and hiring of team members, encouraging diversity of background and experience

 

  • Build partnerships and solicit feedback from internal and external business partners to define and develop successful processes
  • Foster an environment in which customer needs and requirements are anticipated and expectations are exceeded.
  • Bridge geographical and cultural differences with a focus on building relationships and influence process change
  •  Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiatives

 

  • Manage operational budget for the Payroll Administration teams

  

Qualifications:

  

  • Education - Bachelor´s degree in Finance or related experience, Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or MBA is strongly preferred

 

  • Minimum 15 years, with a preference for 15+years of relevant experience managing a payroll operations team in a large, corporate environment with multi-state and multi-country payroll experience. Finance and tax reporting experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with Business Process Outsourcers across multiple functions and industries
  • Multi-country transformation and International cross time zone working experience (statutory, regulatory and cultural)
  • Experience in process design and process engineering, communication across diverse business segments and client audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to forge strong and trusting relationships across organizational lines
  • Superior interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to drive organizational change
  • Strong people management experience
  • Previous experience in SAP Payroll/ HR is strongly preferred
  • HR Systems experience and/or management is a plus and is preferred
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Travel may be required to support global payroll operations
