Position Title:
Systems Engineer II, Linux/Web - EA SPORTS Online Ops (1 Year Temporary Full-Time)

Position Overview:
EA SPORTS is seeking talented engineer to join the Central Technologies Services - Online Operations team.  The ideal candidate is a talented Linux systems administrator with a heavy emphasis on web operations experience.   The successful candidate requires a wide area of systems administration knowledge including: application support/integration, database support, capacity planning/scaling, release/change management, high availability engineering, configuration management, and software deployments.

Note: The role is a temporary full-time position and is based in our main office in Burnaby, British Columbia.  


  • Setup, monitor, upgrade and scripting on Linux servers (RedHat), databases, Web and Java application servers.
  • Work with high volume Internet customer facing systems utilizing JEE (JDK 1.5/1.6), provide tuning and monitoring of JVMs and Java programs.
  • Build, integrate, and configure cloud services using leading-edge cloud software.

Required Technical Skills and Experience:

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years industry technical experience primarily on Linux/Unix for large-scale Internet applications/systems.
  • Significant experience in deploying and troubleshooting complex sites built on top of PHP and Javascript.
  • Significant experience administering Java based technologies: Java Virtual Machine, JBOSS, Jetty, Tomcat
  • Significant experience administering Linux servers including scripting in Python, BASH or Perl
  • Strong knowledge of networking including, TCP/IP, Load Balancing, Network ACLs, etc.
  • Expert level Knowledge and experience with deploying, troubleshooting and tuning Apache, Java and PHP.
  • Experience with setting up and managing databases. Oracle and MySQL preferred.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, KVM and Xen.
  • Knowledge of source code management tools: Maven, CVS, Subversion, Git and Perforce.
  • Game console integration experience a big plus
