Position Title:
Software Engineer II, Dev Ops - EA SPORTS Online Ops (1 Year Temporary Full-Time)

Position Overview:
EA SPORTS is seeking talented software engineer to join the Central Technologies Services - Online Operations team. Our platform powers online features for EA Sports mobile, console, and web game titles serving millions of users each day. You have an opportunity to build tools for server-side systems that help to manage our platform and servers, as well as work on regular improvements to the systems to keep them at top notch performance.
Note: The role is a temporary full-time position and is based in our main office in Burnaby, British Columbia.


  • Help design, develop, test and implement quality code and tools
  • Continually strive to optimize performance and scalability of server systems
  • Integrate systems and tools into existing code base and processes
  • Maintain tools, integration, and technologies to a support highly reliable environment
  • Develop automated reports to analyze data from the testing process
  • Monitor tools usage and assess return on investment

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years hands-on server-side Java development experience
  • Building maintainable, quality online software tools
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented design and development
  • Working knowledge of network and web protocols, especially HTTP/S
  • Database expertise with MySQL and/or Oracle
  • Experience working on high traffic services and highly scalable systems
  • Principle experience with all phases of product development lifecycle, including requirement definition, development, test, and product release
  • Exceptional analytical and creative problem solving skills, solution oriented individual
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of production monitoring systems
  • Strong expertise working on RESTful web services
  • Use of technologies such as memcached and NoSQL in production systems
  • Experience with Linux system administration, AWS cloud deployment tools, database administration, python development experience, and HTML client side including PHP and Javascript.
  • Experience working within the mobile and/or games industries
  • The candidate must have knowledge and experience in Java server engineering, MySQL database design, Sysadmin and Cloud deployment, large scale data, and distributed data systems. Must have experience with Hadoop, map reduce, and hbase. Must have experience with Linux system administration, AWS cloud deployment tools, database administration, PHP, Javascript, HTML client side server, and Spring security.
