About The News-Star Media Network:
The News-Star Media Network is a multi-platform media outlet that serves as the major source of community discussion with tremendous reach in Northeast Louisiana. No other medium speaks directly to Northeast Louisiana with such depth and focus.
The printed version of The News-Star reaches more than 63,000 adults in Northeast Louisiana in a given week. Our web site, thenewsstar.com, receives more than 3.5 million page views each month and is the No. 1 web site for local news and information. We are a driving force in northeast Louisiana for promoting diversity, education excellence, human rights, economic development, neighborhood alliances and beautification projects.
In addition, The News-Star generates a series of nondaily publications that include Delta Business, Delta Health and Delta Style magazine. Our employees contribute their talents in ten different areas: news, advertising, finance, human resources, information systems, circulation, marketing, production, executive and online services.
The News-Star was founded in 1890 as The Evening News. In 1909, The Evening News merged with the Daily Star to form the evening newspaper, The Monroe News-Star. In 1929, Col. Robert Ewing, who was then publisher of The New Orleans States and Shreveport Times, established The Monroe Morning World and acquired The News-Star one year later. The two papers remained in the Ewing family until the Gannett acquisition June 16, 1977. The Morning World and The News-Star consolidated August 4, 1980 and became The News-Star-World. The name was later changed and the first edition of The News-Star was printed May 22, 1988.
Our mission is to provide accurate and comprehensive news, advertising and public service information to our readers in a timely fashion every day of the year. All the departments of the Paper work together toward this common goal. Each department takes pride in its expressed care and concern for The News-Star's readers, advertisers, subscribers, employees and the people within the surrounding communities.
