 The Maschhoffs, one of the largest independent pork producers in the U.S., is looking for a Feed Mill Manager based in Spalding, Nebraska.

 

Job Title: Feed Mill Manager                               FLSA Class: Exempt

 

Reports To: Director, Nutrition Operations        Department: Nutrition Operations

 

Job Overview:

Responsible for leading a feed production team with accountability for adding value to its pork production system through oversight of the daily production and delivery of feeds at a company feed production facility. Contribute significantly to the strategic direction of the Nutrition Operations Team, including execution of Annual Operating Plans and routine analysis of business performance. The Manager will be responsible for personnel placement and development; working to ensure a safe environment for Maschhoff employees, transportation providers, ingredient suppliers, and visitors to the facilities. As a member of the Nutrition Operations Team, the Manager will develop the skills needed to consistently and efficiently deliver best-in-class products and services to internal and external customers.

 

Job Duties & Accountabilities

Typical Duties of a Feed Mill Manager include:

 

1. Operational Management and Execution

a. Ensure compliance with company standard operating procedures for feed manufacturing and grain handling systems.

b. Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the company’s Quality Control program.

c. Oversee development and maintenance of the daily schedule of manufacturing and transport of complete feed.

d. Support the procurement and receipt of ingredients needed for the nutrition program.

e. Monitor ingredient variances and take necessary corrective actions to ensure proper execution of nutrition program.

f. Execute strategies for continuous improvement aimed at increasing productivity, product quality, and worker satisfaction.

 

2. Fiduciary Responsibility

a. Develop an annual operating plan and operating budget for the feed mill including capital requests for maintenance of the assets.

b. Routinely review and assess inventory control measures with an aim at minimizing inventory adjustments.

c. Routinely review monthly financial information and develop action plans for cost containment within operating budget parameters.

d. Provide analyses to senior management on cost effectiveness of feed transportation.

 

3. Team Leadership

a. Provide leadership to an operations team through strong communication, active goal setting, and routine coaching of management behaviors.

b. Conduct analysis of on-going workforce needs and the development of programs to recruit, hire, on-board and retain qualified personnel.

c. Conduct annual performance reviews for key personnel at all mills, maintain discipline, and provide an environment for career advancement.

d. Establish training programs to develop technical capacity of team members.

 

4. Sustainability and Stewardship

 

a. Ensure that all best management practices are consistent with commonly accepted standards for animal welfare and safety.

b. Ensure that feed production is conducted in a manner that safeguards the environment and maintains regulatory compliance.

c. Develop and execute a strategy for implementing Safe Feed/Safe Food programs.

d. Execute appropriate safety programs at the mill level to ensure the health and safety of mill employees, transport providers, production partners, and visitors to the mill.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Grain Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field.

 

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of management experience in feed operations or other agricultural business.
